One of the most popular and bustling beaches, situated closest to the town of Skopelos, is named after the mythical Prince Staphylos. His tomb, discovered on a small promontory at the beach’s edge, contained a gold sword now displayed in the Archaeological Museum of Athens. Half of this beach is well-organized with amenities, while the other half caters to those seeking peace and quiet. It’s located just 4 km south of Chora.
An overgrown, sheltered pebble beach with abruptly deepening turquoise waters, Panormos is surrounded by several small bays known locally as Andrines. The name originates from Adrina, a pirate woman who docked here with a boat full of pirates aiming to conquer the island. However, her men failed, and upon hearing the news, Adrina tragically drowned herself in the sea. Panormos is about 15 km southwest of the city.
Lalaria Beach, located in the northeastern part of the island, is one of Greece’s most stunning beaches. Northern winds have shaped the purely white cliffs towering over the sea for millions of years, creating perfectly round, white pebbles that blanket the entire beach.
