Nafplio (Greece) – A Romantic Haven for Couples

Two years ago, I took a trip to Nafplio with my girlfriend. This charming little city is just a two-hour drive from Athens, and it’s one of my favorite spots. Honestly, it seems like everyone in Greece has been there because it’s so easy to get to with many cheap flights available.

The moment you arrive, you can’t miss the large castle perched on a hill to your left. It’s called Palamidi. Don’t let the 999 steps intimidate you; the view from the top is totally worth it. You can see the entire city spread out beneath you.

After climbing all those stairs, we were pretty hungry. We headed to the old part of the city and found a traditional restaurant where we indulged in lots of delicious souvlaki and tzatziki. That evening, we took a leisurely walk along the old harbor, enjoying the beautiful sunset. Right in front of the harbor, there’s a tiny island with a castle called Bourtzi. Words can’t really capture how stunning this scene is. As we strolled by the sea, we noticed plenty of cafés where you can relax with a coffee or an ice cream.

Later on, we had dinner at a wonderfully romantic restaurant in the old town. The place was adorned with candles and roses, and the food was fantastic, and surprisingly affordable.

After dinner, we took another walk along the harbor. It felt like a scene straight out of an American movie, just the two of us and the moon. Suddenly, we spotted a small café-bar that seemed to float on the water. The bar and sofas were so close to the sea that you could almost touch the water. Sitting there with my girlfriend, watching the moon and sipping a glass of wine was pure bliss.

It’s been two years since that magical trip to Nafplio, but I definitely plan to visit again this year, even if it’s just for a weekend.
